Girl Summit for the first time in Nepal

Kathmandu, March 10: National Girl Summit is going to be held for the first time in Nepal with an objective of ending child, early marriage and forced marriage.

The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare is organising the summit from March 23.

Under-Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Kiran Rupakheti, said that children, youths, teenagers, leaders of communities, religious leaders, experts, national and international delegates, people working in the field of gender, child rights and teenagers would participate in the summit.

According to the Ministry, more than 1.3 million girls from 10-19 years are at the risk of early marriage in the country. Some 24.5 per cent girls from 15-19 years are now married and 48.5 per cent women from 20-49 years get married before their 18th birthday
