I became PM to bring change: PM Oli

Bhaktapur, March 10: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said he had become the PM to bring change in the country.

At a programme organized by the Organ Transplantation Centre, Bhaktapur, on the occasion of the World Kidney Day here Thursday, the PM argued that he would bring changes in the country which the people realize well.

PM Oli also launched the ultramodern facilities of gastroenterology, pathology, and ICU at the Centre.

On the occasion, PM Oli said time has come to bring noticeable changes in the lives of the people from hills, mountains and Tarai.

PM Oli, however, admitted that he could not deliver whatever he had planned in the last five months. He further said Nepalis are themselves to bring real change while the foreigners' assistance is secondary.

He made commitment that the government would make utmost efforts to strengthen health sector.

"As long as I live, I want to live an active life," the PM said.

Also speaking at the programme, Minister of State for Industry Meghraj Nepali opined that the dialysis and kidney transplant facility should be freely available to the poor in Nepal. He also spoke of the need to expand the dialysis service across every district in the country.

Echoing with State-Minister Nepali, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe said the government should provide free dialysis serviced to the poor. Bijukchhe pointed out the need for the government to develop the physical infrastructures for kidney hospital.

Similarly, Chief of Organ Transplantation Centre Dr Pukarchandra Shrestha shared that there were as many as 3 million of people in the country suffering from some sort of kidney-related problem.

He added that the kidney failure claims the lives of as many as 3,000 people and 90 per cent of those with kidney failure die within three months.

The Centre has so far successfully transplanted kidneys in 146 patients. A total of 30,000 kidney patients have got dialysis facility from the Centre, according to Dr Shrestha.
