Dec 17, 2015- External Affairs Ministry of India has urged the agitating Madhes-centric parties of Nepal to resolve current political crisis through consensus and understanding.
During a diplomatic consultation on Nepal’s political issue held at South Block in New Delhi on Wednesday, MEA officials urged the agitating Madhesi Morcha to “seek solutions from within the joint proposal brought by major parties.”
Sources said that India has been positive about Nepal Parliament’s move to table the constitution amendment proposal. MEA officials remarked that the situation will ease soon after the amendment process reaches to a conclusion.
“The meeting did not enter into topic wise discussion on demarcation or citizenship,” said a source privy to the development, quoting Indian officials present at the meeting. “Content is not our issue. We can only recommend that Nepali government engage with the agitating sides at as soon possible.”
Following a meeting with four leaders of Madhesi Morcha in New Delhi last week, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had hinted that the current border obstruction at Nepal-India border would ease soon. But the situation is still at status quo till date.
Amidst such confusion and logjam, Nepali Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay, among other diplomats, reached South Block for holding consultation on Wednesday. Chief of Nepal Desk at MEA Abhay Thakur, among other MEA officials, were present in the discussion.
According to sources, the meeting took place on the request of Upadhyay. The meeting lasted for nearly one-and-half hours.
